Chargers play their division rival, the Denver Broncos, in Denver. With having just placed Asante Samuel and Gus Edwards on Injured Reserve, the Chargers were missing a few other players heading into Colorado. Right after the teams early bye week playing without Joey Bosa and others on defense, Denver was going to be a hard fought battle no matter what. After a week of rest the Chargers were ready for whatever was going to be thrown at them.
The first few minutes of this game were a ride and a half. The Denver Broncos first possession was cut short by a insane missed catch that popped up and turned into an interception by Elijah Molden. Shortly after that you had Ladd McConkey almost reach in for an amazing touchdown, but come just short of scoring on Chargers third down. McConkey goes down a little rough following the play and is then checked out for concussion protocol. Meanwhile you have Slater go out for more than a few plays as well as right guard Trey Pipkins. Things were starting to look like it was going to be an incredibly long game for the Bolts. Then an unfortunate stroke of luck for the Denver Broncos when their star and one of the NFL’s best, Pat Surtain II, goes down for concussion protocol and ends up being ruled out the rest of the game.
All while the roller coaster of the first three or four minutes of Sunday’s game, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh gets taken into the blue medical tent and then promptly comes out and starts jogging off the field with medical crew right behind him. While the Defensive coordinator takes over coaching duties such as going for a field goal on a fourth down play, fans in stadium and at home all wonder for the safety of their beloved head coach. After about six minutes of gameplay, coach Harbaugh, was back on the field and ready to go. Not soon after, it was let known that it was because of a heart arrhythmia. Also known as an irregular heartbeat, its something Harbaugh was aware of and dealing with previously. He is listening to doctors and is taking precautions going forward and says he wont be missing any games.
The Action for the actual gameplay went great from there for the Chargers Where they had an amazing touchdown thrown by Hebert to rookie running back Kimani Vidal. An amazing showing of strength and smart route running earned the rookie his first ever NFL touchdown. Just Herbert looked like himself in years past throwing for 183 yards in the first half. His average per game up until Sunday was around 154 yards per game so the ball was definitely getting aired out.
J.K. Dobbins showing up and showing out with another rushing touchdown for the season, as well as being four yards short of another hundred yard day on the ground. Big man Teair Tart scooping up a fumble recovery. last but not least the Chargers defense racking up two sacks, six passes deflected, and five quarterback hits. The Broncos attempted to come back late in the game and were hoping for luck on an onside kick to give them a smidgen of a chance but the Chargers defense on and special teams plays smart and helps clinch the win for the Chargers.
The Chargers get a little longer week of rest, as they will be facing off against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football, in Arizona. Its always hot in Arizona with Kyler Murray at the helm and star wide receiver rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. Its going to be an interesting game, but don’t be surprised if there’s a storm that shows in Arizona on Monday night under the lights.
