Meeson Pae Yang graduated from Peninsula High School in 1998. Pae’s Studio Meeson career started in the Fine Arts Department at UCLA. To apply Pae had to submit a portfolio with 15 art pieces. She didn’t have a portfolio. So, she spent a week creating 15 forms of art.

She then went on to take sculpture classes at El Camino College. Thus, Studio Meeson was born.

Meeson’s mother is a clothing designer and makes a line of women’s clothing. Her father created silkscreen designs for apparel.

Meeson Pae’s Creative Process

Meeson works in various media from painting, video, sculpture, and installation. “I do a lot of experiments and I see how materials interact,” Meeson says. She starts with an informed guess of what the materials’ inherent properties are. By working with those properties she forms each piece. Pae takes groups of materials and transforms them into something else.

Pae tests her creative theories like a scientist at work in a lab. Viewing the results and making changes as she develops each unique piece. “I’m always exploring how the work fits into a space and how people view and interact with the work.”

Meeson keeps her work open-ended. This gives the viewer just enough information to form their own interpretation. Everyone brings their own experience and ideas to their view of each creative piece.
