Dear Ethicist,
My wife and I were on a subway car, a panhandler presented herself as blind and crippled. We gave her a dollar.
A few minutes later we were at a store and we saw her again, now with sight and no longer crippled.
Question: ruling out a miracle, should I have requested the dollar back?
