Californians have been consumed with tracking COVID deaths in 2020.
But if look back to 2018, there have been more deaths in the past. January 2018 was the deadliest month in recent California history.
According to the California Department of Vital Statistics, there were more than 28,000 total deaths in January 2018. From the chart above, you can see the average amount of deaths between 2014 to 2020 falls between 20,000 and 28,000.
